The power of music!

There are millions of songs that have been created over the years. Beautiful ballads to rough rock songs. Music is just incredible. I guess I am slightly biased as music is such a huge part of my life. But music can change people and things. Music plays a huge part in politics, religion and so many other parts of our culture.

I mean how boring would it be to go to McDonald's and not hear the incredible classical music used to drive chavs and teenagers away! I'm kidding. In fact, the classical music has a psychological effect making you eat slower as you're more relaxed and therefore spend more time in McDonald's making it look busy to other customers walking by outside.

Music not only can control you psychologically but for me, music holds memories. I have a playlist I started last year. I am listening to it as I write. This playlist is just over 300 songs long and I still add to it now. Sometimes I can just be moving along on the bus and suddenly I get a music dejavu. The song hits me and I remember something, on the bus to college this happened. In fact it happened with 3/4 songs in a row. And you just rember those songs and their significance in your life. So these are the songs that hit me and they all remind me of Spring and Summer 2017.

The Man who can't be moved //

The Script

I played this song in The Bath Wine Vaults last year. But as I announced this song a rather tipsy man in the audience started to get super excited. He starts using his chair as a drum kit and playing along with me. And at the start I was put off massively, this had never happened to me. But then it hit me. THIS is what music is, bringing so much joy to people (although in sure the alcohol definitely increased the joy). But when I hear this song I just think back to the bitter smell of the wine vault and the darkness that was beautiful. I rember the light on the wall that illuminates the lyrics to the Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody that we ironically were singing and dancing to on the bus up to Bath.

No Scrubs //

TLC

This was my song! This was the song I played on repeat, that I played at every gig for a good 3 months. I love songs that are relatable and this one... This was relatable at the time and when I hear this song I just laugh. What an insane time this was. At the time this situation was mad, everything was going wrong (as it often seems to). I look back and I am so thankful for what I learnt. I may have lost some close friends but I learnt some valuable lessons.

Hearts don't break around here //

Ed Sheeran

Now I talk about going to Ukraine a lot. And I am sorry for that. But this song reminds me of a cute little dance I did with the little girls in my group. And believe me, teaching 6 and 7 year olds a dance is harder than trying to speak in Ukrainian! But the smiles and the happiness this VERY simple dance made are unforgettable. Music is so powerful and not only does it bring back memories but feelings. When I hear this song I feel the heat from the Ukrainian summer, the smell of the grass and the storm that was in the air.

American Teen (album) //

Khalid

Now I'm not an American teen, I'm a British teen but this song is still amazing. This album takes me back to driving around in the summer. Where you can just smell summer. Everyone is happy and everything is perfect. This summer was the best I've had so far and there are so many songs I can remember it by, but these were just a few that stand out. And also played one after the other on my bus journey.

I'll link a playlist of 'Summer Songs' for you all, these are the songs that remind me of the best summer of my life (so far). What are the songs that remind you of of your favourite or not so favourite memories? I tried to keep this upbeat so these are all of the good reminders! - Click Image Below.
